Day 82 - Lucy (French)

Lucy

" a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic." Rotten Tomatoes.

This movie is the 2nd worst movie (Metropolis is number 1) I have ever seen in my life. Now, the concept wasn't all that bad as it was the best part of the movie. The special effects were also good but I felt like I was watching a poorly edited student graduation film. There were a lot of unnecessary scenes especially in the beginning. I did happen to enjoy how this film is very multicultural as it takes place in many countries and features actors from various countries as well. There a few holes in plot like the creepy white guy who was with Choi Man Sik is never seen again even though he appeared to be very important.
The ending was ridicolous but understandb=able. I felt that the writing could have been better as everyone besides Lucy was written poorly. The story really can't hold up and causes severe boredom in the viewer. I happen to like Luc Besson but this film is a completle waste of a film.

Day 75 - The Flu (Korean)

Flu (2013) Poster

"The worst epidemic ever seen is sweeping through Bundang, the suburb of Seoul. After smuggling illegal immigrants into the country, Byung-woo dies from an unknown virus. Soon after that, the same symptoms are plaguing scores of residents in Bundang. People are helpless against the airborne disease and the number of infected increases quickly, spreading chaos. As the worst-case scenario precaution, the city of half a million people, just 19 kilometers from Seoul, is about to be sealed off. The government orders a complete shutdown. Meanwhile, infectious disease specialist In-hye and rescue worker Ji-goo go into the closed city to find the blood serum of the index case, a crucial part of developing the vaccine."

A good movie if you are into mass panic movies like Contagion. Though I don't really like that there is a small feeling of Anti-Americanism in the film. I also hate how we are shown as bastards and not once have I seen an American truly represented in a Korean movie (except for Daniel Henney. Anyway this movie is actually a good watch, there are a few dull moments and standard Korean movie moments as well. There's also an annoying supporting character that you can always hear coming. Don't expect any real romance or any truly human moments except for the scenes with the little girl. I would suggest this movie on a slow day, there are a lot of graphic scenes so beware!

Day 71 continued - Centurion (British)

Posterofcenturion.jpg

"A splinter group of Roman soldiers fight for their lives behind enemy lines after their legion is decimated in a devastating guerrilla attack."

A very weak historical film that has many holes and boring action scenes. The script had a lot to say but I felt like it could have been better. Some of the story simply didn't make sense and felt rushed. There was explanation for many things which causes us to be left hanging even after the end of the film. I suggest you skip this film unless its a slow night.

Day 66 - The Dead Zone (American)

The Dead Zone (1983) Poster

"A man awakens from a coma to discover he has a psychic detective ability."

Not bad but its a bit dull to be honest. Now Christopher Walker is good in the film, everyone else is a little weak. The plot could have been better as it is predictable and doesn't have a good twist. Only watch this movie if you have nothing else to watch.

Day 65 continued - Nurse (American)

Nurse 3D (2013) Poster

"By day, Abby Russell is a dedicated nurse, but by night, she lures cheating men to their brutal deaths and exposes them for who they really are."

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be, I really didn't like how Abby changed throughout the film. This film shouldnt have been made in 3d, even though I watched the 2D version there were a few moments you know that were made for the 3D version. I really hope someday people realise that 3D scenes look bad and are completely annoying. The killings were fun to watch, they get better as the movie goes on. Sadly the plot and direction turned sour, as it became something almost un-watchable.  I suggest you skip this horror movie even if its one of the better modern ones I have seen recently.

Day 64 continued - The Cave (American)

The Cave (2005) Poster

"Bloodthirsty creatures await a pack of divers who become trapped in an underwater cave network."

A poorly made horror film that has talent present in it but a poor script and direction leads to this film's downfall. It was nice to see some faces that I haven't seen in a while like Morris Chestnut and Cole Hauser. I was so disappointed with this film, I was happy though with all of the colors present in the film. Besides that there was nothing else that was good in this film. I suggest you skip this film no matter what.

Day 53 continued - The Hunting Party (American)

The Hunting Party (2007) Poster

"A young journalist, a seasoned cameraman and a discredited war correspondent embark on an unauthorized mission to find the No.1 war criminal in Bosnia. However, their extremely dangerous target decides to come after them."

Not bad, its understandable why they made a movie like this. I enjoyed most of it but at times it can be a little boring. I dislike Jesse Eisenberg, so it was annoying to see his appearance in the film. I do happen to think Richard Gere and Terrence Howard did a good job as a team. I felt like there should have been more to the film as the direction wasn't all that great. Its an okay movie to watch when you are bored.

Day 52 continued - A Walk Among Tombstones (American)

A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014) Poster
"Private investigator Matthew Scudder is hired by a drug kingpin to find out who kidnapped and murdered his wife."

One of the better new Liam Neeson movie but still needed some work. I dislike the fact they had Astro as a supporting character he is so annoying to me. I enjoyed Liam Neeson's performance as it was one of his best, to me it was better than his character in Taken. Its a good movie to watch on a warm day when you want to stay inside.

Was based on a book
Liam Neeson is the second person to portray this character on film (Jeff Bridges was the first)

Day 52 - John Wick (American)

John Wick (2014) Poster

"An ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him."

First off this movie needed a lot more work done to it but this has to be the best performance I have seen from Keanu Reeves. The direction was alright, there were a few holes in the plot. The action scenes were very nice and very fun to watch. I hate how they introduced a few characters without really usually them like the bartender. Back to Reeves, he was able to portray this character so well that this role appears so different from any other role he has taken. I was so impressed with his appearance that I felt like watching it again. Excellent movie if you have nothing better to do.

Day 32 - The Town That Dreaded Sundown (2014-American)

The Town That Dreaded Sundown (2014) Poster

"65 years after a masked serial killer terrorized the small town of Texarkana, the so-called 'moonlight murders' begin again. Is it a copycat or something even more sinister? A lonely high school girl, with dark secrets of her own, may be the key to catching him."

Better than I thought, it was especially good. With the premise you would think it would be a bad movie but the director and actors did a great job. The sex scene was better than most horror films, the woman didn't have large fake breasts which was a good aspect. The lead actress Addison Timlin had a good aura about her, she was good much better than any other I have seen in the horror genre.

Day 17 continued - Get the Gringo (American)

Get The Gringo Key Art.jpg

"The film opens with a getaway driver (Mel Gibson) and a wounded accomplice dressed as clowns fleeing from American police toward the Mexican border. The driver crashes through the border fence, whereupon he is arrested by corrupt Mexican police officers Vasquez (Mario Zaragoza) and Romero (Gerardo Teracena). When they find over $2 million in the car, they incarcerate him in El Pueblito prison under false charges, keep the cash for themselves, and cremate the accomplice, who by then has died. As one of the only Americans incarcerated there, the driver becomes known as "the Gringo".

An interesting film from Mel Gibson with everything you need in it, good acting, action, sex, etc. It is such a good movie I wasn't expecting it. I enjoyed the supporting cast especially the kid who provided the gringo with some much needed support. The story was good, Mel Gibson also co-wrote it which is interesting as well. I enjoyed seeing the story develop, it even got better as it went on. If you are a Mel Gibson or an action film fan you will enjoy this movie.

Day 16 continued - Rampage: Capital Punishment (Canadian/German)

Capital Punishment (2014) Poster
"A man takes over a TV station and holds a number of hostages as a political platform to awaken humanity, instead of money"

It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I overly enjoyed this film and its message plus the lead actor Brendan Fletcher who did an amazing job. The direction was good but could have been better. I also wish the supporting could have been better as well. Its still a good low budget movie to watch if you are bored and are in need of entertainment.

Day 3 continued - Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit (American)

Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit poster.jpg

Jack Ryan a CIA analyst working under cover as a compliance officer on Wall Street tries to unlock a mystery that leads him to Russia

I think Kenneth Branagh does a good job as a director but a better job as an actor. The film could have been longer and little more interesting. As a action thriller goes there's a very small amount of action present in the film. The script is filled with finance terms which can be a little boring to hear. Its more like a finical thriller than an action thriller with a bit of drama added in. This film is kind of a let down since you have an all star cast basically but its not all that interesting. Kevin Costner's part in the film seems almost unnecessary and slightly bland. Keira Knightley wasn't all that good as well, I felt like they needed to cast someone else. Chris pine was alright but didn't really like the way he acted in the film. The direction was fine but needed improvement everything happens too fast causing the viewer to feel almost cheated. Watch this if you like anyone that's in the movie.

Little info
Chris pine is the 4th actor to play the character Jack Ryan

This movie was not based on any of Tom Clancy's books as it is an original story

The film was dedicated to Tom Clancy as he died a year before the film was released
