Day 82 - Lucy (French)

Lucy

" a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic." Rotten Tomatoes.

This movie is the 2nd worst movie (Metropolis is number 1) I have ever seen in my life. Now, the concept wasn't all that bad as it was the best part of the movie. The special effects were also good but I felt like I was watching a poorly edited student graduation film. There were a lot of unnecessary scenes especially in the beginning. I did happen to enjoy how this film is very multicultural as it takes place in many countries and features actors from various countries as well. There a few holes in plot like the creepy white guy who was with Choi Man Sik is never seen again even though he appeared to be very important.
The ending was ridicolous but understandb=able. I felt that the writing could have been better as everyone besides Lucy was written poorly. The story really can't hold up and causes severe boredom in the viewer. I happen to like Luc Besson but this film is a completle waste of a film.

Day 81 continued - Magic to Win (Hong Kong)

Magic to Win poster.jpg
"The world consists of five elements: gold, wood, water, fire and earth. In the wizard world of 'Magic to Win', the story also revolves around the "Five Element Wizardry", portraying a story that surpasses our imagination. Kang Sengui (Raymond Wong), a university professor, is the Water Magician of "Five Elements Wizardry". Although he uses magic spells in his daily life, his superpower remains a secret. By accident, his power is transmitted to his student, Macy (Karena), who recklessly uses her newfound powers for personal gain and money-making"-Wikipedia

Another bad movie to review! The film was a bit of a joke, the acting was bad and comedy was a bit corny. The characters are mostly ridiculous, and you might laugh out of the sheer stupidity of a few of them. The worst thing about this film was its special effects which were on par with the special effects from the godawful live action adaption of Avatar the Last Airbender. The story was very easy to read, so this might be a good film to show children but I am sure many adults would be compelety bored if they watch this film.

Day 45 - Neck (Japanese)

Neck-p1.jpg

"
Tomokazu Shudo (Junpei Mizobata) has his first ever crush on Sugina Mayama (Saki Aibu), a senior graduate student. Tomokazu has troubles confessing his feelings to the popular student, but one day, Tomokazu is invited to the research lab where Sugina Mayama works. Tomkazu hopes to use this meeting to express his true feelings for her. To Tomokazu's surprise, when he arrives he first sees a big wooden box in the middle of the lab and the lab is dark. Sugina tells Tomokazu that he looks scared and then proceeds to push Tomokazu into the box!
While being placed into the box Tomokazu is told that he will watch a horror movie produced from his mind, with only his neck & head protruding from the box. Tomokazu will be the first test subject for Sugina's "The Neck Machine". The device hopes to turn people into monsters from the neck down while watching monsters. The first experiment fails, but Sugina then gets the help of childhood friend Takashi Gori (Yuta Hiraoka), who is now a horror writer named Mataro Echizen" -Asian Wiki

Seriously I thought it was going to be a good movie but I was wrong. The comedy was over the top and leaves you rolling your eyes rather than laughing. There is some romantic factor but they don't really play out. I thought Chiaki Kuriyama's performance was weak, her character was a bit lacking since she was in love with a character from Gori's book rather than Gori which it hints to a bit. Or the fact that Sugina seems to be romantically inclined to Takashi until the later half of the film. If you are looking for a good romantic comedy then this isn't the film for you.

Day 40 - Bleach the movie: Hell Verse (Japanese)

Bleach Hell Verse poster.png
"The movie opens with a recap of Ichigo Kurosaki's final battle against Ulquiorra in Hueco Mundo, in which he transformed into an incredibly powerful and uncontrollable Hollow. Some time later—after Aizen's defeat, but before Ichigo loses his powers—, Rukia Kuchiki and Renji Abarai arrive in the human world to inspect a strange occurrence; though they remain vague about what. Shortly after, powerful masked spirits attack Ichigo and the others at school."

I was so bored with this movie, to me the story was very simple and really had no heart. The art was good but the animation was fine needed more work. Overall I was disappointed with this film so much.

Day 10 continued - To Catch A Virgin Ghost (South Korean)

Sisily 2km.jpg

"Seok-tae runs away with a huge diamond of his gang and comes to Sisily, a peaceful village. Yang-e runs after him to get the diamond back and finds Seok-tae’s trail in Sisily. But all the town people lie about everything. These people turn out to be scarier than a ghost! "

I started to enjoy this film in the later half of the film. Especially when the main character meets the ghost and spends time with her. To me the best character in the film was the ghost, as she was cute and times adorable. The comedy is over the top at times but if you have watched a few Korean movies before than you should be used to it. I would suggest this movie to anyone that is having a slow day or in need of a silly comedy.

Day 6 - Stories of Appariations (Japanese)

"Based on the popular Japanese urban legends of "Shinrei Shashin", or so called ghost photos, Stories is an omnibus collection of five skin-crawling ghost stories of unexpected paranormal encounters, when schoolgirls and office ladies alike come across eerie, otherworldly photographs possessing more than just images."

A few unique stories brought together is a difficult thing to deliver. Yet the directors of this film almost make it but they fail in many ways. I hate the fact the film looks so low budget which is a slight annoyance. Some of the characters were well written but sometimes the story was difficult to follow and at times I felt like my attention was elsewhere. Watch this if you really love Japanese movies.
