Day 10 continued - To Catch A Virgin Ghost (South Korean)

Sisily 2km.jpg

"Seok-tae runs away with a huge diamond of his gang and comes to Sisily, a peaceful village. Yang-e runs after him to get the diamond back and finds Seok-tae’s trail in Sisily. But all the town people lie about everything. These people turn out to be scarier than a ghost! "

I started to enjoy this film in the later half of the film. Especially when the main character meets the ghost and spends time with her. To me the best character in the film was the ghost, as she was cute and times adorable. The comedy is over the top at times but if you have watched a few Korean movies before than you should be used to it. I would suggest this movie to anyone that is having a slow day or in need of a silly comedy.

Day 10 - The Grudge Match (American)

Grudge Match Poster.jpg
"
In their prime, Pittsburgh boxers Henry "Razor" Sharp (Sylvester Stallone) and Billy "The Kid" McDonnen (Robert De Niro) become rivals after two fights, one in which Kid beats Razor and one in which Razor beats Kid, the only defeats of their careers. Before they have a rematch, Razor announces his retirement without explanation, infuriating Kid and costing them a big payday.
Years later, Razor is low on money and working in a shipyard when he's visited by promoter Dante Slate, Jr. (Kevin Hart), who wants Razor to provide a motion capture performance for a video game. It was Slate's father whose shady business dealings ended up leaving Razor in dire financial straits. The soft-spoken Razor wants no part of this stunt. Kid, a showoff who runs a bar and a car dealership, is all for it."

Now this movie could have been a thousand times better especially since its basically Rocky vs. Raging Bull. Sadly the plot was slightly bad and there is a lack of good direction at times as well. Peter Segal is the director of movies like Get Smart, Tommy Boy, and a few others. This is not the kind of film that he is used to doing which isn't bad but he could have been tried harder. We have Sylvester Stallone, Robert De Niro, Alan Arkin, Kevin Hart, Kim Basinger, Jon Bernthal and a few others. So a lack of talent is not the problem in the film, which brings me back to a predictable script. I wish it could have been slightly more serious at times but its understandable why they chose the direction to go in that they did. Don't get me wrong its still a good movie but it is not a strong movie, I recommened it if you like Sly or Robert De Niro plus if you like sport comedies.

Day 9 continued - Out of Towners (American)

Outoftownersmp.jpg

"Henry and Nancy Clark are a couple living in a quiet Ohio town. Married for 27 years, their last child has left home and Nancy is suffering from "empty nest" syndrome. Unbeknownst to her, Henry has lost his job due to corporate downsizing and has an interview in New York. Nancy sneaks on the plane with him and they begin a disastrous series of misadventures. "

A completely bad film despite it featuring many talented actors and actresses. the only part of the film that I like was John Cleese's performance which was very funny. Besides that there's really no value in this film, its full of cheap laughs. I suggest you skip this film unless you are a fan of either one of the leads.

Day 9 - The Huntresses (South Korean)

The Huntresses poster.jpg

A"dventure of 3 korean female warrior, Jin-Ok, Hong-Dan and Ga-Bi as the three most legendary bounty hunters in the Joseon dynasty."

Could have been good especially since Ha Ji-won is in it who is always nice to see. Sadly due to a poor plot direction and the general story moving way to fast. Everything happened to so fast it was hard to see the reason for the actions of the girls sometimes like the girl on the left kissing a man and claiming to like him without previously showing any emotion for him. I suggest you skip this fan unless you like the lead actress.

Day 8 continued - Falcon Rising (American)

FalconRisingPoster.jpg

"John "Falcon" Chapman (White), is an ex-Marine anti-hero plagued with a terrible secret consuming him with guilt. On the self-destructive edge, he learns his sister Cindy (Ali) has been brutally beaten in the slums, or “favelas”, of Brazil and travels there to hunt down her attackers. In the process he discovers an underground world of drugs, prostitution, and police corruption ruled by the Japanese mafia and protected by the powerful Hirimoto (Odate)."

Could have been quite good but it fails due to poor direction and character development. The script was weak as were most of the scenes. I thought the beginning of the film was decent but with better direction and script it could have been even better. The action scenes were good as they normally are with Michael Jai White especially the final one. I wish though they had more powerful as I feel like Blood and Bone was better. The plot is predictable, the supporting casts acting was very weak. I wish the Japanese element was played better as we really only see 2 Japanese people in the film despite the villain is a yakuza. I did like the cultures present in the films but even that could have been better. I suggest this film to action fans

Day 8 - Saving my Hubby (South Korean)

Savingmyhubbyposter.jpg

"The adventure of Geum-Sun with her baby in one night to save her husband's life."

Did not like it at all, it was such a let down of  a movie. I like Doona bae sometimes but this movie isn't one of her finest. I found a lot of problems with the film especially the way I think that Doona Bae forgot that she had a baby strapped to her back. In one scene when the young mother is running down the stairs you can tell that they used a doll. Either that is the fault of the director or the editor but I'm surprised no one caught it. Its slightly good at some parts but the over the top comedy is sometimes too much.

Day 7 continued - A Small Act (Documentary)

A Small Act.jpg
"The documentary chronicles Chris Mburu's search for his benefactor, whose sponsorship allowed him to continue secondary school in Kenya. "

This film shows that there is still hope for the human race and that there is hope present in our lives. I enjoyed the documentary as a whole but some of it was dull mainly do to direction. I enjoyed the story of Chris and Hilde, as it is a inspiring tale. No matter how much you donate it might change the life of a person forever. Which there was more scenes with Hilde and Chris but I understand why didn't do this.
