Day 101 - The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) Poster

"Bilbo and Company are forced to engage in a war against an array of combatants and keep the Lonely Mountain from falling into the hands of a rising darkness." -IMDb

Such a weak movie I swear it was such a disappointment to the point that I wanted to throw the DVD away. It felt so short despite being 144 minutes long, not a whole lot seems to happen. I think this was the weakest Hobbit movie but that isn't saying much as the other two were barely passable. Peter Jackson has failed to truly honor the fans with his final hobbit film. The film didnt have any heart, and it felt overacted in some parts. Things seemed rushed if you could believe that. I simply hated this film to its core which really surprised me.

Lee Pace's parents visited the set so much that Peter Jackson offered them extra roles but they were cut out of the film.

This is the shortest film in the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings series

Day 100 continued - The Book of Life (American)

The Book of Life (2014 film) poster.jpg

"Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart, embarks on an adventure that spans three fantastic worlds where he must face his greatest fears." - IMDb

One of the better animation films that I have seen this year. I really enjoyed seeing a part of the Latin culture, I think they did a really good job at telling this story with the culture in mind. The voice acting was great, I appreciate the fact that the majority of the voice actors actually have some kind of Latin heritage. It makes the film seem more authentic that way.
With that said, the story could have been better in many ways. It seemed too simple and it a little too childish in a way. The character development was good as was the character designs. The director, Jorge Guiterrez, did a really good job. You can tell that he is experienced in directing animation which was greatly appreciated.

I would suggest this film to anyone interested in Mexican culture and wants to see a good animation movie.

Day 100 - King of Comedy (Hong Kong)

Chows KING OF COMEDY.jpg

"Wan Tin-Sau (Chow) is an actor who cannot seem to catch a break, since his only professional jobs are limited to being a movie extra and is often tormented on stage. As well as being an actor, he is also the head of his village's community centre."

Another Stephen Chow film that borderlines on corny and comedy. I think this is one of his better ones to be honest. It was interesting to say the least. It could have been better as there were a few dull moments. I happen to enjoy this love interest, as I felt like she was a better actress than some of other love interests. The script was a tad bit weak this time but its kind of normal for a Stephen Chow comedy.

Day 99 continued - The Oranges (American)

The Oranges (2011) Poster

"The enduring friendship between the Walling and Ostroff families is tested when Nina, the prodigal Ostroff daughter, returns home for the holidays after a five-year absence and enters into an affair with David, head of the Walling family." - IMdb

Despite the talent of Hugh Laurie and Oliver Platt this film fails to be entertaining. The script wasn't that bad but it needed to be more realistic. The acting was kind of there but felt like the younger cast kind of held the film back. The ending was so predictable, it left a kind of bad taste in my mouth. It made the film seem a lot more simpler than it was. In better hands this would have been a good movie.

Day 99 - Tale of the Mummy (British-American)

Tale of the mummy poster.jpg

"Centuries ago, under the sands of ancient Egypt, a prince was buried and his tomb eternally curses so that no man would ever again suffer from his evil ways. But hundreds of years later on a greedy search for treasure, a group of archaeologists break the curses seal of the tomb. Every man vanishes without a trace, leaving behind only a log book - and a deadly warning of the legend of the bloodthursty TALOS. Fifty years later the log book ends up in the hands of the granddaughter of the head archaeologist, and she defiantly sets out to retrace his steps. "

One of the worst movies I have ever seen. The acting was a complete waste as was the direction and the script. Avoid this movie like you would a serial killer or the plague. There is nothing much to say about it. I felt like this was someone's student film from some low down college in the middle of nowhere even though there are quite a few famous actors present in the film.

Day 98 continued - 009-1:The End of the Beginning

009-1: The End of the Beginning (2013) Poster

"Marking the 75th anniversary of his birth, Shotaro Ishinomori's classic spy heroine manga "009-1" has been adapted into a live-action motion picture for the first time ever." _IMdb

Not one of the best Japanese movies I have ever seen but its not the worst one either. Mayuko Iwasa who plays Cyborg 009-01 is cute for sure but she could have been a little better acting wise. The direction was a bit poor, the script was bad and the story was too predicable. It was slightly entertaining but it was mostly dull.

Day 98 - In The Army Now (American)

"Two misguided youths join the reserves to make some money for their entrepreneurial dreams. No sooner than they finish basic training are they called up to do their part to save the free world."-IMdb

I have a guilty pleasure which is I love movies from the 80's and 90s. This movie is one of them as it was released in 1996. It's not that great of a movie or even a good one at that. If you know Pauly Shore's style of comedy then you may just like this film. It has a few laugh moments but besides that it doesn't do much. I didn't like the pace of the film but it really had potential to be more with someone else directing it.
