Day 107 continued - Purge: Anarchy (American)

The Purge – Anarchy Poster.jpg

"The movie is notable for its dramatic change over the original: while the first film was set entirely in one house, this film is set all over the Los Angeles wide area to give the notion of what usually happens during the Purge" - Wikipedia

Such a freaking disappointment, this film series had a real chance to make something of itself but it truly fails.  The only good factor of this film was that they showed the whole city rather than just what is happening in one house. Also the film displayed a lot of minority characters which I truly loved. I really hated the fact there was a moral compass and most of the characters stated that the purge was bad. I did expect that but I think this film might do something originally but I was let down. There is no reason to watch this film, I was completely bored.

Day 87 continued - Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (American)

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) Poster

"A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier."

I thought it was a bit of a disappointment but it is better than the James Franco one. I wished some of the special effects were better but they did a good job with all of the apes. The cities almost seemed so real, so they had some better good designers making this film.  It was nice to see how things resulted in the world being controlled by apes that can be seen in the original films and Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes.  The writing could have been better but the character development was actually good. I would suggest fans of the series to watch this.

Day 74 continued- Guardians of the Galaxy (American)

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) Poster

"A group of intergalactic criminals are forced to work together to stop a fanatical warrior from taking control of the universe."

Actually not bad at all, I thought it was going to be horrible to be honest. They did a great job with adding a lot of comedy to a action hero movie. It wasn't over the top, some of the jokes are actually quite funny. The acting is well done, I think Chris Pratt stands out the most. They did a good job with making him have the spotlight but at the same time he doesn't hog it. It was nice to see John C. Reily and a lot of the other supporting characters. There is a lot of good talent present in the film. This is definitely not a marvel movie you would want to skip.

When David Bautista got the role he broke down in tears, he was so happy to be apart of a marvel film. He even took more acting classes to prepare.

Day 73 - Transcendence (American)

"A scientist's drive for artificial intelligence, takes on dangerous implications when his consciousness is uploaded into one such program"

A very weak film even with such a talented cast like Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman. The film was very boring, it seemed to have a lot of holes as well. The script was poorly done, it really had no real depth.

Day 63 continued - The History of Future Folk (American)

The History of Future Folk (2012) Poster

"The possibly exaggerated origin story of the real life alien bluegrass band, Future Folk, that has been playing for NYC audiences for the better part of a decade."

A decent film but its not all that funny. Its a little dry to me but it was still a nice movie to watch. I enjoyed the music even if it was a little silly. Its longer than it should have been plus the script could have been a bit better. But if you are bored with nothing to do then this is the movie for you.

Day 49 - Robocop (American)

RoboCop (2014) Poster

"In 2028 Detroit, when Alex Murphy - a loving husband, father and good cop - is critically injured in the line of duty, the multinational conglomerate OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer."

This film is hard to critique as I do like the direction at times but other times its completely bad. I do like the darker feel of this movie as it fits the time better than trying to copy the comedy present in the original film. I didn't really like the main actor as he really didn't portray the struggle of this character that well. Something that ignored me was the fact that Alex Murphy's wife didn't play a bigger role and was only used when it was absolutely necessary. Even with an all star cast this movie really didn't make that good of an impression with me. If you are a fan of the original then understand they took a different approach and don't base your criticism on how the new Robocop strayed so far what was the original was.

Day 44 continued - Frankenstein's Army (Dutch/American/Czech)

Frankenstein's Army DVD cover.jpg

"Toward the end of World War II, Russian soldiers pushing into eastern Germany stumble across a secret Nazi lab"

Really this film was a waste of time, the only element worth talking about was the design of the monsters. Some of them were quite good but the others were ridiculous and served no point at all. I hate the camera style in the film it makes it harder to get into the movie and is simply annoying.

Day 43 continued - Peabody and Sherman (American)

Mr Peabody & Sherman Poster.JPG
"The time-travelling adventures of an advanced canine and his adopted son, as they endeavor to fix a time rift they created. "

Such a wonderful movie even though I hate 3D I couldn't help but fall in love with this movie. The animation was good as far as I could see though I was annoyed with some of the character designs. I also wish the film was a bit longer and had more depth in it. The voice acting was good or should I say the casting choice of the characters voices were wonderful. They seemed to match each character well without any annoying voices. This is a great movie to watch even if you are not a child or animation major. Its the first time in a while that a film has made me actually laugh and feel good while watching it. I suggest this film to anyone that enjoys a good movie.

Day 39 continued - Automata (Spanish)

Theatrical release poster

"In 2044, solar flares have irradiated the Earth, killing over 99% of the population and causing technological regression. The survivors build primitive humanoid robots, called Pilgrims, to help rebuild in the harsh environments. These robots have two unalterable protocols: they can not harm any form of life, and they may not modify themselves or other robots. Initially seen as mankind's salvation, they are relegated to manual labor when they fail to stop the advance of desertification."

A very non original sci-fi movie that could have been a thousand times better. I didn't really like anything in the movie besides the design of the robots. The movie is almost two hours long and not a whole lot happens in the film. Antonio Banderas does a good job but its not enough to save this movie sadly..

Day 35 - The Wesley's Mysterious File (Hong Kong)

The Wesley's Mysterious File.jpg

"Wesley, a science specialist for the United Nations, encounters Fong, an alien who was stranded on Earth six hundred years ago. Wesley assists Double-X agents Sue and Pak in their search for the Blue Bloods, a race of aliens possessing nifty powers. Fong and her brother Tan were separated when they arrived on Earth and she wants to find the rest of his skeleton. The government actually has shady plans for the Blue Bloods, and there are alien baddies who show up to cause mayhem. "

Even with talent like Shu Qi and Andy Lau this film is a complete waste. The special effects are absolutely horrible, they look like they belong in a PlayStation 2 game and one of the cheap ones. The supporting cast was horrible, their skills in acting proved to be about zero. The script was really weak, some characters often repeated the same thing a few times. Shu Qi's English needed work, her ascent is a big thick and she often quickly said her lines. The best part of the film to me is the fact that the film is based in San Francisco that's about it. Don't watch this movie even if you are a fan of Andy Lau.

Day 19 continued - The Running Man (American)

Running Man Theatrical Poster.jpg
"The film, set in a dystopian America between 2017 and 2019, is about a television show called The Running Man, where convicted criminal "runners" must escape death at the hands of professional killers."

Not bad of a movie but felt like there was no real depth and everything happens so fast. I don't think Paul Michael Glaser did a good with directing as it feels like a typically action film rather than a film with a deep meaning. Arnold wasn't that bad in the movie but its still not one of his best acting moments. The supporting cast was alright, there wasn't really any depth to them and it felt like the director tried to rush these people out of the camera. Its still an okay movie to watch if you are bored.

Day 18 - Explorers (American)

Explorersposter1985.jpg

"The film stars Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix (in their film debuts) as teenage schoolboys who build a spacecraft to explore outer space"

A good movie that could have been great if it wasn't rushed. Yet the film still has its value as an entertaining movie. The director did a good job as did the casting director. Its quite brave to make a movie with children as the main stars but they managed to pull it off. Ethan Hawke was quite an actor at this age much better than most of the kids in the goonies movie. Sadly the other two kids didn't really do a whole lot of acting after this film, one died at 23 years old and the other retired. It should have been a bit longer with the aliens shown more but they still do a good job. This is a great movie to watch with children or if you simply like these kind of movies.

Day 17 - Divergent (American)

Lead characters Tris and Four stand above a futuristic Chicago.

"The story takes place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic version of Chicago[7] where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Beatrice Prior is warned that she is Divergent and thus will never fit into any one of the factions and soon learns that a sinister plot is brewing in her seemingly perfect society"

It was better than I thought it was going to be but it could have been better still. I didn't really like Shailenne Woodly, she reminded me of Kristin Stewart but she happens to be a slightly better actress. The supporting cast was fine but I also didn't like Zoe Kravitz she was quite annoying. I did like the world they designed and the system used in the film. It was entertaining to watch so its worth it if you have nothing to watch on a slow day.
