Day 114 - Penguins of Madagascar (American)

Penguins of Madagascar poster.jpg

" penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private in their own adventure."-Wikipedia

A very cute animation movie but it fails to be funny for older people though it would surely be funny for young children who are the intended audience. I thought the script was alright, the plot was simple but its the characters that truly are the best thing about the movie. I thought watching the penguins was entertaining but sometimes it was a bit too silly for my blood.

2.5/5

Cast

Tom McGrath (Skipper) is the director of all 3 Madagascar films but was not the director of this film.

Chris Miller (Kowalski) directed Shrek the 3rd and Puss In the Boots

Conrad Vernon (Rico) directed Shrek 2 and Monsters Vs. Aliens

Christopher Knights (Private) is an English voice actor and a Film editor

Benedict Cumberbatch (Classified) famous for his role as Sherlock Holmes on the TV show Sherlock

Day 113 continued - Being Flynn (American)

Being flynn poster.jpg

"Working in a Boston homeless shelter, Nick Flynn re-encounters his father, a con man and self-proclaimed poet. Sensing trouble in his own life, Nick wrestles with the notion of reaching out yet again to his dad."

Not much to say about this film but that it is a bit weak overall. Robert De Niro was the best thing about this movie as it was one of his better modern performances. This film was based on a true story and it defers from it a lot. I did enjoy the fact the authors wife actually appeared in the film and is famous in her own right. The weakest element was Paul Dano's performance which was quite bland so we should point our finger to the director as he is the true reason why this film fails. Poor judgement on the script and how some of the performances went really bad which causes this movie to be on my "skip this movie" list.

Day 113 - Like Sunday, Like Rain (American)

Like Sunday, Like Rain POSTER.jpg

"Surrounded by wealth and living with abundant resources in Manhattan, 12-year-old cello prodigy Reggie, lives a solitary life lacking only frequently absent parents and friends. Estranged from family, having slacker boyfriend troubles, and fired from her waitressing job, sometimes musician 23-year-old Eleanor needs a new place to live and a new job. "-Wikipedia

A dry film that features a well known cast but fails to good anything good with them. There are a lot of unnecessary shots especially of Leighton Meester going to the bathroom. I don't think that was something I needed to hear though it does add realism it seemed quite weird. A lot of the characters are underwritten like Billie Joe Armstrong's Character that almost seemed useless. The script was dull and seemed quite forced at times. Some of the characters even appeared to be so fake that it was hard to believe in them. This film is a failure on all fronts, skip this movie if you can.

Day 112 continued - Leonie (Japanese)

Leonie Film Poster.jpg

"The film is based on the life of Léonie Gilmour, the American lover and editorial assistant of Japanese writerYone Noguchi and mother of sculptor Isamu Noguchi and dancer Ailes Gilmour."-Wikipedia

A truly terrible film that was bland to the point it was almost unwatchable if not for the fact that I like interracial relationship movies and movies that showcase multiple cultures. I don't like the way that Emily Mortimer acted but I do appreciate a film with a strong female character. I didn't feel like this movie had any amount of depth, it also seemed quite rushed. At times I had a time enjoying the film due to the poor direction choices. I understand that you can only do so much when making a film based on someones life but still there could be better historical accuracy and more realistic human emotions. If you are interested in Japan at all then this the movie for you.

Day 112 - Deep Rising(American)

Deep rising ver3.jpg

"A group of heavily armed hijackers board a luxury ocean liner in the South Pacific Ocean to loot it, only to do battle with a series of large-sized, tentacled, man-eating sea creatures who have taken over the ship first." - Wikipedia

One of the worst horror movies I have seen in a while. The special effects were piss poor and you can tell they are as soon as you begin to see the monsters. The acting was weak and the chemistry between the actors was bland. Now I did like the interracial relationship present in this film too. Now the acting was probably the best part of the film. Regardless of what I stated earlier several of the actors did an alright job. There were a lot of famous actors and a few that are not famous but you might be able to recognize a few of them.

Little info

Harrison Ford turned down the main role thus the budget of the film was lowered

Day 111 continued - The Truth About Webcam Girls (Documentary)

"A documentary that follows three women who perform via webcam to paying customers."-IMDb

A very poor documentary about a semi interesting topic. The film felt a bit fake and the direction was poor. It felt more like something a rejected newscaster might make with no real understanding of documentaries. I would say skip this documentary with all of your might. By no means are the girls boring, they were interesting and would have been more interesting if the documentary was done in a different way.

Day 111 - BMF: Rise of a Hip Hop Drug Empire (Documentary)

BMF: The Rise and Fall of a Hip-Hop Drug Empire (2012) Poster

"THE BLACK MAFIA FAMILY explores the story of the 15-year investigation that resulted in 41 defendants across the country being charged in one of the largest drug conspiracy cases ever."- IMDb

BMF aka Black Mafia Family, was a hip hop label with only one artist. It was a front for a major crime ring as the label made millions of dollars but their solo artist wasn't all that popular.
Anyway the documentary was poor, as it felt like some music video director directed it without really understanding how "cheap" the documentary felt.
The  whole thing was weak but still watchable if you are interested in the premise.

Day 110 continued - Wing Commander (American)

Wing Commander (1999) Poster

"Blair, a fighter pilot, joins an interstellar war to fight the evil Kilrathi who are trying to destroy the universe." - IMDb

A horrible sci-fi that lacks any type of real depth. I kind of like the idea of the film but it could have been used in a different way. Freddy Prince Jr was alright but he has poor acting abilities. Matthew Lillard, in my opinion did a much better job as the best friend of the main character. I did like the interracial relationship in the film with Matthew Lillard's character and another character. The direction was weak,  Chris Roberts had never worked on a live action film before but he did direct several Wing Commander video games before the film was ever made. So theres no real reason that the direction of the film should have been so poor. Skip this film unless you truly love space movies.
