Day 125 - Red Tails (American)

"The film is about the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American United States Army Air Forces(USAAF) servicemen during World War II. "

I'm all for more movies with about the history of black people in America. I have a soft spot for it because I am 25% black, I can not forget the actions of the men who came before me who made it possible for me to have the life I live. So whenever this is a movie about black Americans (as long as it's not about gangs or slavery)I get excited about it.
With that out of the way, I have to say this film is so bad! I don't understand how it can be when you have an excellent cast with Terrence Howard (Ironman), Cuba Gooding Jr (Radio), Nate Parker (Pride), Method Man, and many more. I have to say its poor direction and editing. Things seemed rushed but it's not as bad as you think. I do believe that the director did not hold anything back, but I thought it needed more depth. I do enjoy the interracial relationship one pilot had with an Italian woman, the personal struggle of another, and the overall life for the pilots. The dialogue was very bad and filled with cliches. Ah, I hated whenever Ne-Yo would talk. His character was just so bad, I don't know whose idea it was to make him talk like he did in the film, but they should be fired. The film is based on actual events, but none of the pilots are real.

Day 124 continued - 42: The Jackie Robinson Legend (American)

A film based on the life of American baseball legend Jackie Robinson. Jackie had the strength to play in the MLB organization despite all the racism, death threats, mistreatment, etc.

The film was quite good, I learned so much and I was entertained at the same time. The struggle black people is hardly ever done right on the silver screen. But this film is able to get the story straight except for a few kinks. It helps that Jackie Robinson's widow was on set and a big part of the making of the film. Chadwick Boseman did such a fantastic job as Jackie that he deserves several awards. The chemistry between Chadwick and Harrison Ford was really there. It felt like an actual father and son relationship or a mentor/student relationship. It was personal, emotional and strong. I was totally amazed at how well they were able to form a connection like that.
Chadwick was such an amazing actor, he was able to get all the emotions right and I was truly blown away by his performance. Brian Heldgeland, the director, deserves a pat on the back as well. He didn't make a stereotypical film, he made a film with such heart. Not only was he able to tell the story an athlete but he was able to tell the story of a man.

An amazing film, I suggest this to everyone.

4/5

Little Info

Jackie Robinson's jersey number "42" can be seen on every MLB stadium field.
The film had the best premiere for a baseball based movie.

Day 124 - Ender's Game (American)

"the film stars Asa Butterfield as Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, an unusually gifted child who is sent to an advanced military academy in outer space to prepare for a future alien invasion"-Wikipedia

Strangely enough, I actually enjoyed this film on certain levels. It one of the better movies that have been released that were based on books. It's not the best film of all time, but it might entertain you for one sitting. The film does have good acting, especially from the young Asa Butterfiled. Also Viola Davis, Ben Kingsley, Harrison Ford, Abigail Davis, and more. You really can't ask for a better supporting cast, so it leaves you to wonder why this film fails.
My finger is pointed towards the director, editor, and screenwriter. Lucky for me, the director and screenwriter are the same person. Gavin Hood was also the director of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I found the movie to be too short and edited in the wrong way. I will suggest that you skip this film as it is a bad film and they are doubtful about a sequel.

2/5

Little Info

This book the film is based on was written by a very controversial man and the film was boycotted by several LGBT groups as the original author is very vocal about his dislike of same sex relationships.

Day 123 continued - For the Emperor (South Korean)

A former professional baseball player joins a loan shark organizations, falls for a woman and betrays the man who gave him a second chance.

What a total letdown! I happen to enjoy seeing Lee Min-ki, but this movie does nothing for his film credits. The film is very bland and the characters seemed so confused. There was no real character development and the structure of the film was truly horrible. Honestly, the best thing about this film is the fact you get to see Lee Tae-im's breasts in a few lousy sex scenes. Speaking of Lee Tae-im, she also offered the best acting in the film so let's give her a round of applause. Avoid this film at all costs.

0.5/5

Little Info

Lee Min-ki appeared in the TV drama Shut Up Flower Boy Band for 3 episodes

This was Lee Tae-im's third movie

Day 123 - The Wedding Ringer (American)

A man with no friends is about to get married, so he decides to lie to his soon-to-be wife and creates a fake best friend. After meeting professional wedding best man his lie turns into a better lie as he hires the man to pose as the fake friend he crafted.

The film could have been so much more, the cast was great, but I felt like the script was lacking. It wasn't all that funny, it had a few good moments but besides that it was a little dull. I do happen to enjoy all the characters present in the film.  The jokes fall flat and the timing is a little weak. Everything feels a little too staged, there was a little chemistry between the two leads but it was not enough to save this comedy failure.

The director stated that there might be a possible sequel. Let's hope not....

Day 136 - Casa Amor: Exclusive for Ladies (Korean)

Bo-hee (Jo Yeo-jeong) is a wife, mother, and a successful marketing executive. Sadly, her husband leaves her because they haven't had sex in more than a year and she rarely has time for her family. It gets worse when she is fired from her job. Eventually,  Bo-hee makes a deal with Oh Nan-hee(Clara), the local sex expert who runs an adult toy store.

This is a very funny movie which a very interesting subject matter. Despite what the title says, this film can be watched by men and it should be. They focus more on the female side which is understandable but what is shown is quite revealing. Not in the nudity aspect but in the relationship aspect. Despite the comedy, it does have a serious subject matter that appears to be very realistic as I'm sure many couples have the kind of problems that are shown in the film. Plus we have the lovely Clara to teach us more about sex and that is very interesting in itself. Can't forget to mention Jo Yeo-jeong who is really good in this film. I think it was probably her best film role and I hope to be able to see her do more work.

Day 135 continued - Secrets of Underground London

This documentary was about what is under London, this is more of a history documentary. I mean that it showcases the history of important events like what occurred during the bombing of England during WWII. It features one of the rooms that Winston Churchhill used as the war was going on. If you are interested in that kind of history, then this is the documentary for you.

2/5

Day 135 - Crated (American-documentary)

Crafted is a documentary by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size me). It's a short documentary (less than an hour), that features several creative people. The documentary is very interesting, it showcases very interesting kind of art. From knife-makers to pottery makers in Japan. It may not be the best documentary, but it's interesting to say the least.

2.6/5

Day 134 continued - After Innocence (American - Documentary)

Do you ever wonder what happens to convicted criminals who were proven innocent? Then this is the documentary that you need to watch.

After Innocence is a 2005 documentary that follows the life of several people who were found innocent after spending several years in prison. The film shows that there is really no support for the men after they are released. Their records still show the crimes that were committed for. They receive no benefits from the government despite the fact that most of them spent over 10 years in prison for a crime they didn't commit.
It's not the best documentary, but it serves its purpose. This documentary shows you a different world that most people don't even think about.

Day 134 - National Lampoon's Vacation

The Griswold family decides to visit The Walley World Theme Park,  but terrible things happen to the family.

The film was directed by Harold Ramis and stars Chevy Chase. The film still holds up to this day, the comedy is present and everyone is on the top of their game. Chevy Chase is very funny in the film especially the last half of the film as his characters kind of loses his mind after all the horrible stuff that has happened to him and his family. I'm sure a lot of fathers even to this day can relate to Chevy Chase's character. I will keep this short and sweet. This is an older movie (1983) but its still good.

Day 133 continued - Naruto Shippden: 7 The Last (Japanese)

The Last: Naruto the Movie (2014) Poster

"Hyuuga Hanabi, the younger sister of Hyuuga Hinata is kidnapped by the alien Ootsutsuki Toneri, and a disheartened Uzumaki Naruto must put himself together to help his new found love save her younger sister. Naruto's abilities are put to the test when he loses his most powerful form - the Sage of Six Paths cloak" - IMDb

I was so looking forward to this movie, but it was a letdown. Not only was the art and animation questionable. The story line was weak! I was finally able to see the romantic duo of Hinata and Naruto! The best parts of the movie come in the middle of the movie and at the end. I did like how Hinata was portrayed, but I wanted something more out of the story. I thought fans were cheated because we didn't get to see their wedding until the credits started rolling, but even then we only saw silhouettes of the characters as the wedding was going on. I suggest only fans of the series watch this film as it's not that good animation wise.

Day 133 - The Perfect Guy (American)

ThePerfectGuyPoster.jpg

"After breaking up with her boyfriend, a professional woman gets involved with a man who seems almost too good to be true."

First off this film doesn't deserve all the hate it is receiving. I actually went to the opening day of this film and I found myself very interested in the movie (especially since someone else paid for my ticket). First off, there are cliches but I think that's kind of fine in movies like this as long as they don't take them too far. I also have a problem with the picture I posted as there is no reason for Sanaa Lathan to be wearing that kind of dress as she is not playing a seductive role. The advertising makes it look like she is balancing a relationship between two men. Michael Ealy was amazing in this film, I say it is his best performance in his whole career. Sanaa and Morris Chestnut also did a good job they made the movie even better. The use of sound was quite good as was the lighing in almost all the scenes. The director, David M. Rosenthal, did a good job with his direction but there are certain spots which could have been better. I did like the police officer and the messages behind the movie as well. I will suggest this movie to women of all kinds and for men who want to see a decent film.

3/5

Little Info

Michael Ealy- Graduated with an English Degree, his first role was in a TV movie called Metropolis.

Sanaa Lathan- Graduated with an English Degree from UC Berkeley and her first role was in 1996 on a TV show entitled In The House. She also voiced Donna Tubbs in The Cleveland Show

Morris Chestnut- First appeared in the TV show Freddy's Nightmares, he would later appear in Boyz N the Hood, G.I. Jane, Half Past Dead, and many others.

Day 132 continued - Movie 43 (American)

Movie 43 poster.jpg

A set of short skirts being led an all-star cast of actors and actresses.

Well this movie is a complete piece of trash that is not worth anyone's time. Even with the talent of Richard Gere, Hugh Jackman, Chole Grace Moretz, Gerald Bulter, and many others this movie is a bomb. None of it is actually funny and at times it looks like it takes things too far. I did like the actors they chose for the skits but not the skits themselves. Even though I thought some skits were clever concepts but failed to be anything entertaining. Skip this movie at all costs.

Day 132 - Outcast(American/Chinese/Canadian)

Outcast poster.jpg

"When the heir of the imperial throne becomes the target of assassination by his despised older brother, the young prince's only hope is the protection of his sister, and the reluctant aid of a war-weary Crusader, Jacob (Hayden Christensen), who must overcome his own personal demons and rally the assistance of the legendary Crusader-turned-bandit, Gallain (Nicolas Cage), to return the prince to his rightful place on the throne" -Wikipedia

I was looking forward to this movie because of the multiple cultures present in the film and fact is you don't see a whole lot of movies that are willing to do this in Hollywood. This movie was a great let down destroyed by horrible acting and a botched story as well as direction. Hayden Christensen simply destroyed his role, I can see why so many Star Wars fans dislike him. Nicholas Cage was alright but something in his performance was missing. Oh! I know what it is, it's heart! I felt nothing from his performance and I simply wish he would go back to seriously acting like he in the movie Leaving Las Vegas. It was nice to see Liu Yifei in the movie but I wish the director had used her better. I don't know what the director was thinking by making this film, it have no real value. It was directed by Nick Powell a stuntman who made his directing debut on this film. Maybe its already time for him to go back to doing stunt work. Overall skip the movie at all costs.

Day 122 continued - The Deadlands (New Zealand)

The Dead Lands (2014) Poster

After Hongi's clan is slaughtered, he commits to vengeance. With the help of a cursed warrior, the boy sets up to become a warrior and a true man.

Not the worst film ever but clearly not the best. It was really interesting because it features a culture that I have never heard about. The Maori are an ancient people that reside in what is now known as New Zealand. I think the acting was there on the basis of the cursed warrior as his actor appeared to know what he was doing. I think the main villains and the star of the film were a bit lacking. The lighting was horrible, I understand that the director was probably going for natural lighting but it was really hard to see what was going on at times. Overall the movie is a not impressive enough to be anything better than alright. It's easy to say that this film is horrible because of the way the character act but that could be that you have never seen this culture and you find their actions repugnant. You have to take a step back and analyze not only this movie as a whole but also yourself.

2/5

Little info

Lawerence Makoare who plays the cursed warrior has done a lot of work on Western media. Just some of his credits are:

The Hobbit: The Desloation of Smaug
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring & Return of the King
Die Another Day
Xena: The Warrior Princess  (TV Show-2 episodes)
Young Hercules (TV Show-1 Episode)

Day 122 - Fame High (Documentary)

Fame High (2012) Poster
"Everyone dreams of fame. From the nail-biting freshman auditions to the spectacular year-end performances, Fame High captures the in-class and at-home drama, competition" -IMDb

Such a good documentary, It had a great subject matter with real people. Speaking on the style of the film, it had a lot poor edits and poor shots. The best thing was seeing the subject matter aka the students who were trying to either get into a good college or trying to start a career in such a hard field. Everyone present was realistic, nothing really seems forced. It was the kind of documentary that I really needed to watch. I suggest this documentary to everyone in college, high school that needs to be inspired.

3/5

Day 121 continued - Dumb and Dumber To (American)

Dumb and Dumber To (2014) Poster

"Twenty years since their first adventure, Lloyd and Harry go on a road trip to find Harry's newly discovered daughter, who was given up for adoption." - IMDb

It was nice to see these two back but sometimes while watching the film I felt like it was a little late for a reunion. I also felt like the script was a little to simple which is funny to write. There was still chemistry between the two leads but it felt like the magic of the film was gone. Which is why I stated that it felt like the reunion took to long to do. If you are a fan of the original then you might like it even more. I will suggest this film to those people.

Day 121 - Gallants (Hong Kong)

Gallants (2010) Poster

"Weedy office worker Cheung is sent to a remote village to secure property rights for his real estate company. Two martial artists run the village's teahouse, which was once the kung-fu school of their teacher Master Law. Law is in fact lying unconscious upstairs in a three decades-long coma, but he awakes when gym boss and local landlord Pong attempts to secure the teahouse for redevelopment. Law mistakes Cheung for a former student and starts training him in preparation for a martial-arts tournament at Pong's gym that will decide all their fates."- IMDb

A nice attempt to try to bring the old school effects of action films to the modern era. There were a few good moments present in the film but sometime it was over the top. The script needed to be better as did the pacing. At times it felt like the film was moving way too fast. Besides that the film was entertaining to watch. If you are interested in martial arts film then watch this one and be entertained

Day 120 continued - Freeway:Crack in the System (Documentary)

Freeway: Crack in the System (2015) Poster

"The real Rick Ross is not a rapper. He's an urban legend in South Central LA, a black godfather figure whom most people have never seen, but know by name and reputation. He's 'Freeway' Rick Ross, the man who stood at the center of the crack epidemic, and whose name has been inextricably linked to the CIA-Contra-Cocaine connection. His story defies all odds and stereotypes and proves that truth is indeed stranger than fiction."

It was very interesting to hear the story of the real Rick Ross. It was entertaining and enlightening on many grounds. As his second conviction was able to show the truth about Crack in America. It is kind of close to home as one of the major reporters present in the documentary worked in my hometown of Sacramento. Now back to the main man, Rick Ross was enlightening to the experience of being a drug dealer, drug lord, convict, a freeman, a convict again and secondly as a freeman again. This is a great documentary for anyone interested in criminal justice.

3.7/5

Remember the real Rick Ross is not a rapper

Day 120 - Burying the Ex (American)

Burying the Ex (2014) Poster

"A guy's regrets over moving in with his girlfriend are compounded when she dies and comes back as a zombie." -IMDb

An entertaining film but it could have been done a lot better. It happens to be one of the interesting zombie films to me. I enjoy watching Anton Yelchin perform, he also has a good presence on camera. It helps that Alexandra Daddario was present in the film, she was a beautiful addition to the film as she is a good actress and has a very nice body. Ashley Greene was alright but I felt some of her zombie make up could have been better. I enjoyed the film, it seemed more like a realistic supernatural romantic comedy film.

2.5/5

Day 119 continued - Usain Bolt: The Fastest Man Alive (Documentary)

"This documentary follows the life and career of Usain Bolt."

It was a nice insight into the life of the fastest man alive. Usain is quite an interesting man who comes from humble beginnings and humble dreams. The director did a good job with this film and it really had a personal touch to it. It's rare for me to watch a sports documentary but this film was totally worth it. If you are interested in learning more about the man, the sport of running, or looking for a good documentary then this is the one for one.

2.7/5

Day 119 - Sex Tape (American)

Sex Tape (2014) Poster

"A married couple wake up to discover that the sex tape they made the evening before has gone missing, leading to a frantic search for its whereabouts." - IMDb

I was expecting something better from this film especially with the cast it features. I felt like Jason Segel did well on his side but he didn't fit well with Cameron Diaz who herself was one of the soft spots of the film. There are a very few laughable moments and some enjoyable ones. But nothing was able to save this film from being a bomb.

2/5

Day 118 continued - Eva (Spanish)

Eva (2011) Poster

"A shy genius is employed by his former university to design robot software." - IMDb

I liked the premise of the film but the longer it went on the less I liked the film. I think the main character was excellent but everyone else was bland. I hate the whole thing of the main character having been the former lover of his brothers wife. It is a story line that is not appealing to me. Towards the climax of the film, everything was quite predictable. The whole feeling of the film was bland despite the efforts of the cast. This is a nice film to watch if you are interested in robotic software and don't mind Spanish.

Day 118 - Ode to my Father (Korean)

Ode to My Father (2014) Poster

"Amid the time of Korean War, a young boy's vow to take care of his family marked the beginning of a lifelong promise spanning 60 years." - IMDb

Probably one of the best Korean films I have ever seen. Hwang Jeong-min was an excellent choice for this film and I can't imagine any other actor in his spot. The whole movie can be summed up in two words: Journey and Promise. I think it was well written with historical events taken into mind. The emotion was there as was the acting. It was a very good piece of film that could have been improved but none the less the film was entertaining to watch.

Day 117 continued - Gun Woman (Japanese)

Gun Woman (2014) Poster

"A brilliant doctor on a quest for revenge buys a young woman and trains her to be the ultimate assassin, implanting gun parts in her body that she must later assemble and use to kill her target before she bleeds to death." -IMDb

If you want to see a sexy Japanese woman who spends a lot of the movie nude kick ass then this is the film for you. The best scenes in the film happen at the end with the final battle. The whole film is slightly entertaining with the usual pink film flair. There is something about Asami that makes me want to watch her more, I think she has a good presence.

1.2/5

Asami was a former Adult Video Idol

Day 117 - Wyrmwood (Australian)

Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead (2014) Poster

"Barry is a talented mechanic and family man whose life is torn apart on the eve of a zombie apocalypse. His sister, Brooke, is kidnapped by a sinister team of gas-mask wearing soldiers " -IMDb

A nice attempt at a zombie film, I think there was a lot of original ideas in this film. I did like the younger sister of the main character but the main character was a little dull. The acting could of been better and the story could have been more entertaining. There are a lot of good entertaining scenes and a few comedic moments that really work well with the film. Overall it is a good zombie film and the ascents are good enough that you can understand the characters. \\

Day 116 continued - Out of Inferno (Hong Kong)

Out of Inferno (2013) Poster

"On the hottest day in 50 years, a serious fire incident happened to a busy commercial tower, a gaggle of fire fighters with an indestructible enthusiasm are going to save lives."-IMDb

Not the worst film I have seen but it could have been much more better especially with the cast they had and the director of the film. I did not like most of the film as most of the characters didn't seem real. I felt like the side stories were not as well detailed as they could of been. The terror of the characters was predictable. I felt like the directors were trying to step in another genre as they tend to stick with the horror aspect which a lot of people like.

Day 116 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (American)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) Poster

"When a kingpin threatens New York City, a group of mutated turtle warriors must emerge from the shadows to protect their home."

Absolute trash in almost every single way, as a fan of the series I was so disappointed. The script was poorly done, it was cheesy almost unbearable to watch. Meagan Fox was horrible, her acting was on the same level as a D rated celebrity. I don't know who made the choices in voice acting but I hope they don't work again in casting again. I swear if you are a loyal fan of the series then don't watch this film. Michael Bay has the shit touch even if he is just a producer on this film. Avoid it at all costs!!

Day 115 continued - Death Wish (American-1974)

Death Wish (1974) Poster

"A New York City architect becomes a one-man vigilante squad after his wife is murdered by street punks in which he randomly goes out and kills would-be muggers on the mean streets after dark."-IMDb

My kind of film! Not only does it feature a mainstream actor killing people, his killings have a purpose. He is killing the scum of New York City, in a way he is making the streets safer which in the film (and in real life) it appears the police can not. This film is the usual get revenge film but it is also more than that. It has heart, it is more realistic than the other revenge films I have seen. Charles Bronson was excellent, he added a great human element to his character. I do think that the other characters were a little underwritten but they don't really matter as much as the main cast. The director did a fantastic job with this film and I wouldn't mind watching another film of his.

Many Horror icons gave interviews for this documentary, which was interesting to see but I felt the director of the documentary fumbled the ball on this film. Didn't know that a zombie movie could be so dull. First off the premise was weak as hell as was the acting from the central cast. I can't even remember anyone that was good in this film. It will go down as one of the worst zombie movies I have ever seen.

Day 114 - Penguins of Madagascar (American)

Penguins of Madagascar poster.jpg

" penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private in their own adventure."-Wikipedia

A very cute animation movie but it fails to be funny for older people though it would surely be funny for young children who are the intended audience. I thought the script was alright, the plot was simple but its the characters that truly are the best thing about the movie. I thought watching the penguins was entertaining but sometimes it was a bit too silly for my blood.
